Project Overview
Compass Exteriors completed a full roof replacement in Amherst, New Hampshire, in a beautiful neighborhood just off Boston Post Road. The homeowners selected Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration shingles in Teak, paired with brown Dave's drip edge for a warm, cohesive finish that complemented the home's exterior. The project also included replacing the existing skylights with new Velux skylights, cutting in a continuous ridge vent to improve attic airflow, and installing critter screen as a premium upgrade to help keep birds, insects, and small animals from entering through the ventilation system.
The biggest challenge was an unexpected thunderstorm that developed while the crew was working. Our project manager closely monitors multiple weather radar systems throughout every roof replacement, which allowed the team to see the storm forming and respond before the rain arrived. The crew worked quickly and carefully to finish stripping the roof and make the entire structure watertight ahead of the storm. Because the weather was identified early and the site was managed properly, the roof was fully protected before the rain began. The thunderstorm passed within minutes, and the crew was safely back to work within the hour. The home did not have adequate ridge ventilation, so we cut in a new ridge vent along the peak of the roof. Proper attic ventilation helps release trapped heat and moisture, which can reduce the risk of condensation, mold, premature shingle deterioration, and ice dam formation. The homeowners also chose critter screen as an added layer of protection. This upgrade allows the ridge vent to function properly while helping prevent unwanted pests from entering the attic. Compass Exteriors provides roof replacement, roof repair, skylight replacement, and attic ventilation improvements throughout Amherst and Southern New Hampshire. This project combined durable Owens Corning roofing materials, Velux skylights, improved ventilation, and careful weather planning to deliver a complete roofing system built for New England conditions.
Weather monitoring mid-project is standard procedure across our our Amherst roof repair work, and it let the crew shelter this Teak shingle job before a sudden storm hit.
