What does a thorough roof replacement actually look like?
This Goffstown project is a good example of what a complete residential roof replacement involves when it is done properly. The homeowners had an aging system that was no longer providing reliable protection, and they wanted it replaced correctly — with a full waterproofing system under the shingles, proper ventilation, and clean flashing at every detail. That is the job we did.
What shingles were chosen for this home?
The homeowners chose Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® shingles in Slatestone Gray. Slatestone Gray is a cool, slate-influenced gray with blue undertones — a color that works well with traditional New England exteriors, especially homes with white or light gray trim. The Duration® product delivers that appearance on top of Owens Corning’s SureNail® Technology, which improves shingle-to-deck attachment in the nailing zone and provides meaningful wind uplift resistance in a climate that tests it regularly.
What was the tear-off and deck inspection process?
Before any new material went on, the old roofing system came completely off:
- Full removal of the existing shingles, underlayment, and old drip edge
- Thorough inspection of every section of decking for soft spots, rot, or structural concerns
- Repair of any compromised sheathing areas before the waterproofing layers were installed
The deck inspection is a step some crews skip or do superficially. We do it carefully because the long-term performance of the new roof depends on the substrate being sound.
What is the waterproofing system on this roof?
The system that actually prevents water infiltration sits under the shingles, not in them:
- Titanium PSU30 ice & water shield at the eaves, valleys, and all penetrations — a self-adhering membrane that seals around every nail hole and creates a redundant waterproof barrier where ice dams and storm water most commonly find their way in
- Synthetic underlayment across the remainder of the field — a stronger, more durable replacement for old felt paper that does not absorb moisture or buckle
- Ultimate Pipe Boots at every plumbing vent penetration
Why do drip edge and flashing matter so much?
Drip edge is the metal flashing along the eaves and rakes that keeps water from tracking behind the gutter and onto the fascia. New drip edge — installed correctly, with the fascia under the eave drip edge and over the rake drip edge — protects the most vulnerable wood on the roofline from the wicking moisture that eventually causes rot. We replace drip edge as a standard part of every replacement because leaving the old one in place with new shingles over it creates an inconsistent edge that will fail faster.
Flashing at chimneys, walls, pipes, and valleys gets the same attention. Most roof leaks on otherwise healthy roofs trace back to flashing — it is where the different planes of the roof meet and where water is most likely to find a path.

Goffstown Asphalt Shingle Roofing — FAQs
What shingles are installed on this Goffstown roof?
Owens Corning TruDefinition® Duration® in Slatestone Gray — a cool, blue-gray architectural shingle with the dimensional look and SureNail® wind-resistance technology characteristic of the Duration line.
What does the ice and water shield protect against?
Titanium PSU30 is installed at the eaves (the spots where ice dams form), in the valleys, and around every penetration. It is a self-adhering secondary membrane — if an ice dam or wind-driven rain ever forces water under the shingles, the ice and water shield prevents it from reaching the roof deck and the interior.
What does a thorough roof replacement look like from start to finish?
Tear-off of the old system down to the deck, deck inspection and any needed repairs, ice and water shield in the vulnerable areas, synthetic underlayment across the field, new drip edge and flashing at every transition and penetration, then the new shingles. Cleanup is included throughout.
